Pattern Recognition, AI, Authenticity, and Neurodiversity in Business:
If you know me even remotely, you probably know I identify as neurodivergent, and I consider that a deeply beneficial part of what shapes my personhood. It’s part of what gives me a unique perspective, and the ability to both accomplish more than the average person in a single day, and what underpins my intellect, as well as the capability to rapidly learn and grow. It's what makes me adaptable, witty, and part of my personal genius. I’ve also had to work with the deficits that are a part of life in the outer edges of societal normality… like where I have cyclical work capacity, the very real aspects of neurodivergent burnout, emotional overwhelm, and chronic stress of trying to fit in spaces that were not built for my neuro-type and biology. There's the rapid decision fatigue, executive dysfunction, and the paralysis generated from a nervous system continuously set to take in too much information.
So when Chat GPT emerged and I accessed the power of content generation with LLM tools for the first time, I felt an intense relief and excitement. I mean the kind felt by a kid on Christmas morning. I spent 8 hours that first day and did a months worth of work. Genuinely. It was magic. It was the kind of delightful relief that you feel after a good cry or a good… yeah, you get the idea. I was a very early adopter, starting my account with GPT only 2 months after the release of it. I grew with it and utilized it in ways most people still don’t. I was building out a product customer journey for an app, developing content with the corresponding calendar and hashtag strategies, planning business models, future-casting through economic forecasting, analyzing data, generating Google ads headlines, getting therapy (mostly as a sounding board) and managing my entire family meals and menu planning and chores for 4 kids of all ages... all in one place!
What started as such a powerful tool to finally support my executive dysfunction has now become a widely used tool generating massive amounts of the content we consume across digital platforms. I’ve talked a lot about trends, what I see coming in the future of AI, and how adoption affects all of our daily lives whether we know it or not. I hear those who resist the use of it saying how they don’t use it or engage with it while using a platform or tool that has it so deeply embedded that they don’t even know that’s what’s under it. I've also discussed the very real likelihood of a world rapidly moving into algorithmic placation through AI generated content, and the subsequent value of authenticity increasing tenfold.
As a neurodivergent baddie, part of my gift (and curse) is a highly sensitive pattern recognition. I’ve begun to find myself skipping content in a gag-reflex reactively when I notice AI tells — the M dash, it’s not just another repeated line, it’s every piece of content with the exact same formulaic over-explanation that makes me want to chuck my phone across the room and scream! It's not just the 3 different things it’s not and the redundant statement of what it is, it's not the way every piece of content looks like the same designer studio shipped it, it's not even the way people reading from a teleprompter sound like a robot, it's the complete and entire loss of authenticity and life in feeds across social media. The same content is repeatedly and soullessly regurgitated… creating a soup of misinformation.
I’m beginning to lose my mind! And I think part of this is because there’s so many great tools out there to help people post consistently so we can LOOK productive, but at the end of the day, what are we actually creating if not the digital expression of plastic; the forever chemical we can’t seem to flush from our mental cavities. Our data centers continue to fill like our land fills with complete waste; transmissions without energetic meaning. Junk food for our minds.
On that note, I'd like to say that I wrote this all by myself. I typed every word with my own ten fingers, my own two hands, and from my own mind’s unique and authentic expression. No LLM pre-thought my talking points or prompted my on what to say. I truly believe that the commodity we are about to value more than anything is AUTHENTICITY. Its also what ChatGPT-generated instagram posts told me are “the most powerful energetic signal that humans can create through emotion…” Yeah, do your own research on that one - it could also be complete misinformation dressed in AI SLOP.
